Urwaldsteig

Wild nature everywhere

Length: more than 70 kilometres

All around the Edersee winding paths lead over rough and smooth to unforgettable experiences of nature – the last authentic primeval forests – with breathtaking views towards the outstanding forest landscape and lakes within the Edersee adventure region and the national park. The hiker is confronted with wild nature everywhere on an approximately 70-km long trail. Bizarre shapes of trees take you into the world of goblins and gnomes, and in the national park you will walk through the quaint deciduous forests.

A hiking tour over several days – stage after stage – is a very special experience. Entrances are marked in all villages around the Edersee. Adventurous half-day or full-day tours can best be undertaken from the parking areas of the Urwaldsteig. Other attractions include combinations with lake Edersee shipping or with the Aselfähre ferry, the funicular railway in Edertal-Hemfurth (e.on) to the Peterskopf or the mountain railway near Waldeck.

A special booklet with a detailed map and information on the numbered poles (explanations of sites which are marked with a numbered pole) are available in bookshops or from the tourist information centres.
