Traddelkopf Route

Insight into becoming and decay

Starting point: National park parking area „Heinrichshütte“ near Gellershausen (51.132304, 9.012764)

Length: 9.9 km

Short description: The Traddelkopf route leads around the highest mountain of the national park (626 m above sea level) – the hiker follows the symbol of the spotted woodpecker. You will pass the Ruhlauber, a former reserve. Young beech trees have grown densely below old beeches which are up to 200 years old in part. Here, the evolution of a “primeval forest” is clearly to be seen just now. Even on the hilltops of the Traddelkopf the deadwood marks the process of becoming and decay in the forest.
